BC QSO Party

A quick guide for operators — what to expect, what to say, and how it's scored.

This guide is a draft and hasn't been checked yet. Contest rules change from year to year — the sponsor's official rules are the final word.

What it is

British Columbia's own contest: everyone tries to work BC stations, and BC stations work everyone. Mobile stations travel between regional districts, so they're worth working again from each new district.

The exchange

BC stations send a signal report and their regional district; everyone else sends a report and their state, province or country.

A typical contact

VA7ABC/M: "CQ BC QSO Party, Victor Alpha Seven Alpha Bravo Charlie mobile." You: "Victor Echo Seven Sierra Alpha Romeo." VA7ABC/M: "VE7SAR five nine Fraser Valley." You: "Thanks, five nine Greater Vancouver."

Scoring

Points per contact (CW counts more than phone); multipliers for BC regional districts and for states/provinces/countries. Check the current rules for details.

Bands

160–10 m, CW and phone.

Tips for first-timers

A mobile that moves to a new district is a new contact — work them again. Local and friendly; a good first contest.
