RAC Canada Day

A quick guide for operators — what to expect, what to say, and how it's scored.

This guide is a draft and hasn't been checked yet. Contest rules change from year to year — the sponsor's official rules are the final word.

What it is

Radio Amateurs of Canada's birthday party: 24 hours on July 1, with stations everywhere looking for Canadians.

The exchange

Canadian stations send a signal report and province or territory: "59 BC". Stations outside Canada send a report and a serial number.

A typical contact

VE3ABC: "CQ Canada Day contest, Victor Echo Three Alpha Bravo Charlie." You: "Victor Echo Seven Sierra Alpha Romeo." VE3ABC: "VE7SAR five nine Ontario." You: "Thanks, five nine British Columbia."

Scoring

Contacts with Canadian stations are worth more than contacts with stations elsewhere, and RAC official stations (e.g. VE7RAC) are worth the most. Multipliers are Canada's provinces and territories, counted per band and mode. Everyone can work everyone.

Bands

160 to 2 m, CW and phone.

Tips for first-timers

You can work the same station again on another band or mode for more points and multipliers.
