WAE SSB

A quick guide for operators — what to expect, what to say, and how it's scored.

This guide is a draft and hasn't been checked yet. Contest rules change from year to year — the sponsor's official rules are the final word.

What it is

The Worked All Europe DX contest, run by the German club DARC. Stations outside Europe work European stations, and can also pass "QTCs" — short reports of earlier contacts — for extra points.

The exchange

Signal report and serial number: "59 001".

A typical contact

DL1ABC: "CQ WAE, Delta Lima One Alpha Bravo Charlie." You: "Victor Echo Seven Sierra Alpha Romeo." DL1ABC: "VE7SAR five nine one two three." You: "Thanks, five nine zero four five."

Scoring

1 point per contact plus 1 per QTC sent. Multipliers are European countries per band, weighted more on the low bands (×4 on 80 m, ×3 on 40 m, ×2 on 20/15/10 m).

Bands

80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 m.

Tips for first-timers

From here we only work Europe (in the SSB and CW editions). QTCs are optional: ask an experienced operator before trying them.
